Magnesium and why we all need to take this amazing supplement
What is it?
Magnesium is an essential macro mineral nutrient needed to stay healthy and required for more than 300 biochemical reactions in the body. So we do need it in large amounts.
What does it do?
Improves the optimal functioning of your heart and all other muscles in the body
Responsible for proper formation of bones and teeth and reduce osteoporosis
Relaxes the blood vessels and thus can help with blood pressure
Regulates blood sugar levels
Improves energy production in every cell of your body
Can reduce cramping in the body – due to muscle relaxation
Can improve sleep by putting you into a relaxed state
Can reduce anxiety
It is an oestrogen modulator, important for oestrogen metabolism essentially assisting to decrease states of oestrogen excess - women with LOW Mag can often suffer PMS, PCOS and Menstrual migraine
Magnesium can come in many different forms or “salts”.
Magnesium Chloride
Magnesium Oxide – can help with constipation by loosening the bowels
Magnesium Citrate – good readily absorbed form
Magnesium orotate - best for heart health
Magnesium Sulphate - Epsom Salts and great in baths to relax and also for constipation
Magnesium Glycinate – the most readily absorbed form
So WHY Magnesium Glycinate??
Magnesium is bound to a Glycine molecule which is a non essential amino acid . The body absorbs this better as it thinks it is an amino acid. Glycine calms the nervous system (I put it into my CALM caps) and also helps remove mercury from the body using chelation means. It also has a low incidence of gastrointestinal symptoms, low peristalsis and thus little to no diarrhoea.
SOURCES of Magnesium i.e. FOODS
Legumes, Nuts, Seeds
Whole grains
Spinach and other leafy green vegetables
Yoghurt, milk and other dairy
BENEFITS OF MAGNESIUM
Reduces blood pressure
Reduces risk of Type 2 diabetes as it helps to break down sugars and may decrease insulin resistance
Decreases the risk of bone fractures and osteoporosis encouraging healthy bones and thus leading to higher bone mineral density
Reduces the frequency of migraine headaches
Insufficient levels of magnesium seems to reduce serotonin levels – serotonin is a “feel good” chemical in the brain. Increased levels of serotonin will lead to less depression and anxiety.
Magnesium supplementation is for EVERYONE – including children with growing pains.
We need about 100mg – 200mg of elemental magnesium each day. 1000mg of Mag Glycinate contains 180mg of elemental Magnesium
At HHH, we make 1000mg of Magnesium Glycinate in Vegecaps which are suitable for vegetarians and vegans. My suggestion is to take them at night to help with sleep. Commence with 1 capsule and if you wake take another. Depending on the age, the dose is adjusted for children but Magnesium will help them also in many ways.
It is safe, effective and necessary for us to supplement today with our busy lives. Of course I believe it contributes to my mantra of being
HHH or H3 or Happy Healthy Holistic!!
